Hearing and being open to God’s call and finally surrendering to His will to have our son attend the seminary has been a difficult path but a very rewarding one not only for our son, but for us as parents also. Seeing our son’s happiness, spiritual growth and maturity develop through the school year has been a great reward to our heartache of his absence from our daily family life. Our son received, through the care and dedication of the monks, a quality education and guidance to develop a deep prayer life and a closer relationship with God, and we know there would not have been a better place for our son to grow spiritually, academically, and in virtue than at SCK. It has been a great gift to our son to have received the help to grow into a young man of virtue and integrity. The changes in his maturity, his ability to listen and pay attention to detail, and his contentment and peace to accept whatever place God calls him to, as well as good peer friendships and having the time to learn to pray sincerely and grow in faith, are all the great fruits of his time at SCK.

We have seen that the minor seminary offers a rich experience for high school boys which likely does not exist elsewhere in Canada. It includes a strong academic program and participation in numerous sports and outdoor activities, farming and household chores and community outreach events. Their seminary experience has helped to reinforce the Catholic faith and values that we have been teaching our children.

The impact of the SCK on our sons has been marvelous. They have developed stronger characters and consciences. When they are at home, they have the tools to be better sons and brothers. They have developed a better tolerance, and even appreciation, for hard work. They have taken ownership of their faith and have experienced abundant spiritual growth from the constant mentorship, religious teaching and peer conversations.

Over time I have come to realize that the seminary is not just a school, or a group of guys, but a family. The love that we have for each other, and the bonds that we share allow us to say in truth that we are brothers. My time at the seminary has not only shown me my own worth, but the worth of every person God has blessed me with.

Though I discerned my calling wasn’t to the priesthood, the formation that I received at the Abbey became fundamental core to the kind of man, husband and father I strive to be today.

I witnessed a way of life that allowed me to seek God through prayer, work, and service; I wanted to live this life and to offer the experience to others. I am not alone in having experienced this attraction. One third of the community here at Westminster Abbey are alumni of our high school seminary.
