The M.Div. and B.Th. Programs
The Seminary offers two programs of theological studies, one leading to the Master of Divinity professional degree, the other to the Bachelor of Theology degree conferred in virtue of the seminary’s provincial charter. The Bachelor of Theology program includes the possibility of an Honours year. The student must determine his program choice by the beginning of the second semester of his third year.
Semester Hours
As the Seminary accepts only priesthood candidates, it can readily carry out the directive of the Holy See’s Basic Plan for Priestly Formation (#94) that “the pastoral aspect must receive special emphasis in all the subjects which are taught.” During the four-year programme students regularly earn between 120 and 132 semester hours of credit. Liturgy is emphasized also in the Faculty of Arts where historical studies of the liturgy normally account for 18 of the required 120 semester hours of credit.
The B.Th. Program
The Bachelor of Theology program. Includes the possibility of an Honors year, with degree requirements listed below. Students in the B.Th. Program also receive the Master of Divinity diploma when they have fulfilled its requirements.
Admission requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Arts.
- A minimum of eighteen undergraduate semester hours in Philosophy.
The Seminary Admissions Committee may require the student to take some courses in the Pre-Theology program to make up for deficiencies in such subjects as English, Latin, History and Sociology.
Degree requirements:
- The successful completion of at least 90 semester hours in academic and pastoral subjects with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
- A minimum of three years of seminary residence, the final year being at the Seminary of Christ the King.
Degree requirements for the B.Th. (Hons.):
- The successful completion of at least 120 semester hours in academic and pastoral subjects with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The successful completion of an Honours tutorial course and a graduating essay may also be required.
- A minimum of three years of seminary residence, the final year being at the Seminary of Christ the King.
